Burberry’s Military Jackets

Burberry was the original company who designed the trench coat as we know it today. Established in 1856, the company's founder Thomas Burberry focused on outdoors attire with with the intention of producing a product that was water-resistant yet maintaining a breathable fabric. In 1914 Burberry was commissioned by the War Office to design their officer's coats to suit war conditions, hence the name "trench coat". Its distinctive black tan, and red pattern known as haymarket check or the "Burberry classic check" and was originally used as a lining for the Burberry trenchcoat in 1924. Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants, for those companies who supply goods or services to a royal court. Burberry continues to design elegant fashions every season with fresh new takes on the classic military coat.

I never discounted again how much a hat can make a difference after my former boss told me she picked me out of a list of job applicants because my "vintage beret" displayed a sense of style and confidence. A unique hat can certainly turn heads and give you the advantage of looking fashionable without even trying. The Beret can be traced back as military headgear in ancient Greece, and caught attention again in WW1 by French alpine troops, and then again in WWII, by the Maquis. Hollywoods take on beret hats were revived again in the movie GI Goe. It was the Cuban leader Che Guevara who made the beret a worldwide symbol. Monica Lewinsky alone gained worldwide interest in the beret after her scandalous acts with the American President. Today beret hats are often featured in the fall runway collections of the most well known designers such as Versace, and Ralph Lauren.

The D&G fall/winter 2010 is all about masculine tailoring and military precision. The label is known for signatures like corset dresses, leopard prints, and sexy suits. French couturier Pierre Balmain grew up in a home surrounded by fashion. His father owned a wholesale drapery business while his mother and sisters operated a fashion boutique. While on the path of studying architecture, he found himself sketching dresses which lead him to drop his studies and presue his true calling of fashion. Christian Dior,Balmain and Cristobal Balenciaga were all the heavy weaights after World War II. Balmains lines were elegant, feminine and graceful, but since Balmain’s death, his label has changed with the times to being more hip and trendy. Current designer Christophe Decarnin has given the house’s look an rough and tough edge which has caught on with Hollywood's party girls. Balmain's owner, Alain Hivelin, said sales had doubled since Christophe Decarnin was appointed in 2005. Balmain jackets are filled with glitz and glam. These beautiful jackets fetch over 10,000 but have been on sale for 6K. They are very very pricey. If you can afford it, go for it. If you cannot, don't worry, there are dozens of other lines with glam for fractions of the price of these beauties.

Brothers Georges, Armand, Paul, and Maurice Marciano moved from the South of France to California in the late 1970’s and they brought with them a sophisticated European flare to design with them. With the backing of the Nakash family, owners of the Jordache denim empire, they began building their business on "designer" jeans. Their name began to take off when Bloomingdale’s agreed to sell two dozen pairs of jeans, which sold out instantly. Their iconic black-and-white advertising campaigns began in 1982 featuring some of the most famous celebrities such as Anna Nicole Smith, Paris Hilton, Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova, Laetitia Casta, Valeri Mazza, Alessandra Ambrosio, Carla Bruni and Sophia Loren. Guess celebrated its 25th year anniversary in 2006. Within this period, they launched several different brands including the original Guess?, Guess by Marciano, G by Guess, Baby Guess, Marciano for men, GC watch collection, Guess? Perfume and Guess Home. It continues to dress women according to Paul’s idea of perfection: “a strong personality but at the same time sensual and feminine”.

It is known that the Beatles have been one of the most popular bands in history. According to the RIAA certifications, The Beatles have sold more albums in the US than any other artist. The group formed in 1960, originally from Liverpool consisted of John Lennon, who played guitar, Paul McCartney, who played bass guitar, George Harrison who was their lead guitarist, and Ringo Starr who was their drummer.

Professional reviews consider the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Album a masterpiece. Their clothes and style made them trend-setters. Lonely Hearts Club Band was this album that sparked popularity in band jackets, and the trend has lasted over the years.

Today the Beatles are as popular as ever. In September 2009 a new remastered Beatles catalog was available sparking new interest in the beatles once again. Included in the album is 14 Discs featuring 16 Releases with Bonus material.

Within each CD, are detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. The documentaries contain rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique look into the studio atmosphere. Michael Jackson's iconic performances and costumes will be remembered for a life time. Michael Jackson kept the public interested with his over the top fashion wardrobe and luxurious lifestyle. Throughout each decade, Michael's sense of style changed, but one fashion staple stayed throughout his career, and that was the classic military jacket. It was in the 90s, when his theatrical edgy style graced the stage. Sophisticated suits became his obsession, with the addition with his his trademark armbands and other military inspired accessories. Embellished jackets became his classic uniform. Festooned with gold braiding, brass buttons, epaulets, each jacket being more elaborate than the next. The military jacket became a trend statement that lasted throughout the decades.

The glitz and glamour is credited to designers Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins who designed most of Jackson's personal and concert tour wardrobes, which included tens of thousands of pieces, many with military details. The Personal Property of Michael Jackson was auctioned in April of 09, and was conducted by Julien’s Auctions In Los Angeles. Jackson has forever left his stamp on fashion and he will always be remembered.

Forever 21 has amazing clothes, and for extremely affordable prices. Looking through their selection, I cannot help but love every single jacket they carry. Forever 21, is beating out its competition, while most chains are loosing money they seem to making money. In just five years, it has quadrupled in size, squeezing competitors like the Gap. The company has no famous designers or an ad budget, and yet Forever 21 now ranks of the top 500 privately held companies in the United States.

Korean immigrants, Don and Jin Sook Chang, founded the store 24 years ago. " The Changs emigrated from South Korea to the United States in 1981. Don worked three jobs, and while working at a gas station he noticed the nicest cars were driven by people in the fashion industry. The Changs worked hard to make some connections in garment factories, and in 1984, they opened Fashion 21 in a low-rent area near Pasadena in California. Mrs. Chang a hairdresser had a keen eye for new trends, took on the role of chief merchandiser. Today she is known for her hands-on approach to the business, while her husband, Don, attends to the company's finances.

By 1995, the Chang's had changed the name of their company to Forever 21 and opened their first store outside California, in Miami's Mall of the Americas. In just 6 years later, they celebrated opening over 100 locations. Their secret remains to be their low prices and smart business moves such as spending no money on advertising, and spending their money on heavy traffic real estate sites. Today, with stores in the U.S., Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Jordan,the United Arab Emirates and Japan who operate under the Forever 21 umbrella.
